What size flag should I use on a 20-foot flagpole?

A 20 ft flagpole flies a 3x5 or 4x6 ft flag; the 4x6 is the size our residential 20 ft poles are rated with (85 MPH on the 3-inch butt, 105 MPH on the 4-inch butt). Choose 20 ft over 25 ft when the home is single-story or the lot is compact; a 25 ft pole is the better match for two-story homes.

    Why Choose 20 Feet?

A 20-foot flagpole is the most popular height for single-story homes and average-sized residential properties. It's tall enough to be visible from the street while maintaining proportion with your home.

At 20 feet, a 3×5 ft or 4×6 ft American flag flies at the ideal ratio — roughly one-quarter the pole's height. This follows US Flag Code guidelines and looks balanced from any viewing angle.

The one-piece in-ground pole is the traditional pick: a seamless 6063-T6 shaft with a 3 inch butt, a 0.125 inch wall, an external halyard and cleat, and a 5-year shaft warranty. The Titan telescoping pole is the low-maintenance pick: twist-lock sections with no rope at all, stainless swivel rings, and the ability to collapse the pole by hand before a storm.
