When is the flag flown at half-staff?

Per the U.S. Flag Code (4 U.S.C. § 7) and Presidential Proclamation 3044, the U.S. flag is flown at half-staff on the following days each year, plus any date designated by a presidential or gubernatorial proclamation:

Peace Officers Memorial Day — May 15 (unless it's Armed Forces Day)
Memorial Day — last Monday in May, until noon local time
Patriot Day — September 11
National Firefighters Memorial Day — first Sunday in October
Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day — December 7
Death of a current or former president, vice president, Supreme Court justice, or member of Congress (durations vary by office)
Days of national tragedy or mourning as designated by the President

To raise the flag to half-staff, first hoist it briskly to the peak, then lower it slowly to the half-staff position. Reverse the process when lowering for the day.
