When is the flag flown at half-staff?

Per the U.S. Flag Code (4 U.S.C. § 7) and Presidential Proclamation 3044, the U.S. flag is flown at half-staff on the following days each year, plus any date designated by a presidential or gubernatorial proclamation:

• Peace Officers Memorial Day — May 15 (unless it's Armed Forces Day)
• Memorial Day — last Monday in May, until noon local time
• Patriot Day — September 11
• National Firefighters Memorial Day — first Sunday in October
• Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day — December 7
• Death of a current or former president, vice president, Supreme Court justice, or member of Congress (durations vary by office)
• Days of national tragedy or mourning as designated by the President

To raise the flag to half-staff, first hoist it briskly to the peak, then lower it slowly to the half-staff position. Reverse the process when lowering for the day.
