What Size Flag for My Flagpole? The Complete Flag-to-Pole Ratio Guide

A flag that's too small looks lost; one that's too large puts dangerous stress on your pole and hardware.

    The Standard Ratio

The flag length should be approximately 25-33% of the pole's above-ground height.

    20 ft3×5 ft4×6 ft4×6 ft
    25 ft4×6 ft5×8 ft5×8 ft

    Factors That Affect Sizing

    • Wind exposure: High-wind areas? Go one size smaller
    • Multiple flags: Each should be one size smaller than single-flag recommendation
    • Flag material: Nylon is lighter; polyester and cotton are heavier

Our American-made nylon flags are the best all-around choice. Use our flag size and wind guide for detailed recommendations.
