50 ft extra-tall heavy-duty commercial flagpole with a 10" butt and 0.188" wall, made in the USA from 6063-T6 aluminum and shipped as a three-piece shaft for freight-friendly delivery. Wind-rated to 168 MPH without flag, it steps up to a full 10" base — our flagship 50-footer for landmark dealerships, civic monuments, and high-wind sites that need maximum strength behind a 10' x 15' flag. Complete kit ships with a gold or silver ball ornament, revolving truck, halyard, vinyl-covered flag snaps, cleat, flash collar, and steel ground sleeve. Recommended flag: 10' x 15'. Available in Satin, Clear Anodized, Bronze Anodized, and Black Anodized finishes.

Specifying the 50 ft Extra Tall Heavy-Duty Commercial Flagpole (10" Butt)

The 50 ft Extra Tall Heavy Duty is our flagship commercial pole. It steps the butt diameter up from 8" to a full 10", keeps the 0.188-inch wall thickness, and pushes the unflagged wind rating from 115 MPH to 168 MPH. Built from 6063-T6 architectural aluminum, shipped as a three-piece shaft for freight-friendly delivery, with engineered internal splices. The full kit includes a gold or silver ball ornament, single-pulley revolving truck, halyard, vinyl-covered flag snaps, gold-anodized cleat, flash collar, and steel ground sleeve.

This is the pole specified for landmark installations — coastal commercial sites, signature dealership groups, civic monuments in high-wind regions, and any 50 ft application where the pole is the architectural focal point of the property and the consequence of failure is unacceptable. Stamped engineering letters are available within 5–10 business days for an additional fee. Lead time is 3–4 weeks; freight delivery to a commercial dock is included.

    Ideal Use Cases

    • Coastal commercial sites within 20 miles of the Atlantic, Gulf, or Pacific
    • Landmark auto dealership groups and dealership flagship locations
    • Civic monuments, state capitols, and veterans memorial parks
    • High-wind regions: open plains, exposed ridges, lakeshore properties
    • 24/7 illuminated displays at corporate headquarters
    • Any 50 ft install where the failure consequence is unacceptable

    Installation: What to Expect

Same sequence as the standard 50-footer, but the 10" butt and added shaft weight require a larger crane footprint and a 30"+ ground sleeve. Plan for a 3- to 4-person crew, a boom truck or small crane, and a full day on-site after the footing has cured.

    1. Excavate a 72" deep × 36" diameter footing below the frost line
    2. Place 6" of #57 crushed gravel for drainage, then set a 36" sonotube form
    3. Center the oversized steel ground sleeve, plumb on two axes, brace before pouring
    4. Pour 40–50 bags of high-strength concrete in 12" lifts; crown the top to shed water
    5. Cure 7 days minimum (10 days for full design strength) before raising the pole
    6. Splice the three shaft sections on the ground, then raise with a crane
    7. Lower into the sleeve, plumb true, pack clean dry sand around the pole inside the sleeve, then install the truck, cleat, halyard, and ball

This pole is not field-modifiable. The 10" butt foundation footprint is larger than the standard 50-footer — confirm your site has the excavation clearance before ordering.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why pay the upgrade for the 10" butt over the standard 8" butt?

The 10" butt does not change the flag you can fly — both poles are rated for 10×15 ft — it changes the wind envelope. Unflagged wind rating goes from 115 MPH to 168 MPH. The pole becomes the right choice for any coastal site, any ASCE 7 Exposure Category D site, any 24/7 illuminated display, and any installation where the pole is a permanent architectural element you do not want to replace after a storm.

What is the foundation footprint compared to the standard 50-footer?

Both poles are 72" deep, but the Extra Tall Heavy Duty requires a 36" diameter footing (vs. 30" on the standard) to accommodate the larger ground sleeve. The concrete volume increase is roughly 40%. Confirm your site has the excavation clearance — particularly near sidewalks, utilities, or existing landscape features.

Do I need stamped engineering drawings?

Yes — and for this pole we strongly recommend providing them to the AHJ even if not explicitly required. Stamped letters are available within 5–10 business days for an additional fee on commercial-address orders. For coastal Exposure D installs we can also provide a site-specific wind-load calculation.

How is it delivered, and what equipment do I need on-site?

Three-piece shaft via LTL freight to a commercial dock; lift-gate service available at checkout. On install day you need a boom truck or small crane (not a fork-and-strap lift), a 3- to 4-person crew, and clear overhead access to swing the assembled shaft into vertical.

    What is the lead time?

Typical lead time is 3–4 weeks from order to delivery. Satin and clear-anodized finishes ship fastest; bronze and black anodized add 1–2 weeks. Stamped engineering letters are produced in parallel and arrive within 5–10 business days of order.

Wind rating reflects manufacturer-tested performance for the flagpole without a flag installed. Flying a flag — especially one larger than recommended — reduces the effective wind rating.

    How Installation Works

Commercial-grade flagpoles are a more involved install than residential. The pole has to be carefully plumbed and the ground sleeve packed with sand for proper load handling. We recommend professional installation; in Central Ohio we install them ourselves.

    1

    It Arrives Ready to Install

In-stock flagpoles ship to 48 states. You receive the pole, ground sleeve, hardware, and instructions.

    2

    Set the Ground Sleeve

Dig the foundation per the included spec, set the steel ground sleeve, plumb it true, and pour concrete around it. Let the concrete cure 24–48 hours before installing the pole.

    3

Set the Pole, Pack & Fly

Lower the pole into the cured sleeve and plumb it true. Pack clean, dry sand around the pole inside the sleeve to lock it in and absorb wind load. Attach your halyard and flag and raise it. A 25 ft+ commercial pole typically needs 2–3 people or a small lift.
